Reflect on your group's perspective on Columbus Day. How do you feel about your proposal?

I feel that my group's proposal in going against celebrating Columbus day was a pretty good decision. Columbus wasn't the first to come to America. It has been proven by strong archeological that the Vikings and the Chinese were here before Columbus's time. It is obvious that they didn't stay on the continent due to the Natives, but they were here and that counts. Columbus is only credited for bringing America to the attention of the civilized world.

Some say that Columbus's main legacy was death and destruction. Evidence tells us that he brought about disease and enslavement to the Native Americans. Most of the population died from disease. (smallpox, typhus and measles.) Many were slaves who got raped and killed. So what does this say about this "Hero"? People who are against Columbus compare his arrival to Hitler and the Holocaust. This assumption seems ludacris, but evidence tells it all.
